CPF and compulsory annuity is against human rights. If you apply it in another countries which the people are free to express themselves, you will have thousand or even more people protest on streets. -

Singapore is worse than China. The people in China receive pension from the govt, the China govt has the heart to take care of the old. China govt does not shirk their responsibility in taking care of the old. It is different in Singapore, gahmen shirking responsibility to take care of the old, ask the old to work till 80s or as long as they can and want to force people to buy annuity. seriously, i don't quite agree with pension schemes. it encourages "freeloaders" and puts an unfair burden on those who work hard. also the debate of reponsibility for the elderly is one that's been going on for quite a while, is it the family's, the govt's or a mix of both. at the end of the day, if it's the govt's then you will have cases of unequal contributions due to the fact that the funds are drawn from the public in the form of taxes and the like.
also, i do understand the lack of true democracy in Singapore and i don't quite like it, but if you really stop and think, this is really the best we've got for the moment. seriously, none of the other opposition parties are capable of leading the country. period. while i may not agree with everything this govenment says or does, i certainly would prefer sticking with the tried and tested for now then to risk it in the hands of the unproven.
as for the country becoming a communist state, i don't think it's likely. to put it simply, i believe too many have too much too lose if it comes to that. -
