* Taxi Drivers here collect less than approved Published Fare
on every trips
* Commuters not aware of discounts enjoyed on every trips.
* Taxi companies not only don’t bother that their drivers are
short-changed on this ruling as this does not affect them because
they still earn full rental every day, they also don’t cared even
if their Meters is the slowest compared to other Taxi Models
which causes their driver to earn less than their peers.
LTA had a unspoken ruling all Taxi Meters in Singapore must be adjusted
slowed by up to 7%.
Set/adjusted slow: eg. 7% slow means for 1 KM (1000meters) distance,
Taxi need to travel another 70 meters to achieve Taxi Meter 1000 meters
marking/recording.
==============================================================
This unfair “Slow Meter Rule” will caused Taxi Drivers in Singapore to earn
at least less $5 @ day.
If only 30,000 half shifts a day is considered, lost earning by Cabbies in Singapore
will be at least $54,000,000 a year OR $150,000 a day in this industry.
Drivers whose Meter are even slower than their peers, should reconsider if it is
still justifiable to continue paying rentals to their current Taxi Company
and contribute to the salary of their Taxi bosses.

GUESS Taxi Companies here do not care because this ruling does not affect
them financially. For Taxi Drivers collect lesser fares every day but they still
enjoy full Vehicle rental every day.
For those who still believe that their Taxi Company does care, in regards to this
Slow Meter issue, you did not even notice you were been SCREWED
the very 1st day you start driving their Cabs.
For those with the slowest Meter, seems like they got SCREWED
even deeper and harder.
And the best part is the bonus SCREWED. That your passengers do not know
they were getting discount on every trip. Perhaps that is why they will wait
for their 5 cents change returned.
Ask your Taxi boss how many years they had turned a blind eye to this unfair
ruling?
They should know in other countries such as in the UK, they set their meters
to “exact published fare”. They don’t short-changed their own Taxi Drivers
who pay their salary.
Members of Taxi Association should also ask why after paying memberships
fee, their Association instead of helping them, also chose to help commuters
saved more than $54 million a year at their own members cost.
If this 7% slow ruling is due to unreliable manufactured Tachometers reading,
to make Taxi Drivers alone bearing this short-coming is totally unfair.
Fairer solution should be to use a {plus 3% / minus 3%} guideline benchmark.
(not minus 7% against Taxi Drivers)
That is calibrate meter setting to “EXACT” to approve fare and to pass
inspection if Meters setting registered within this 6% window/benchmark.
OR using GPS measurement to calibrate Meter’s pulse to Exact Published Fare
and not rely on inconsistent standard of Manufacturer Tachometer Readings
can also resolve this unreliable Tachometer readings.
Since Taxi Companies, Association and Advisers do not see the need to
address this matter all these years, then Taxi Drivers should help
themselves by sharing this unspoken rule & start speaking out against this
unfair LTA policy.
