Its tough being a teacher now of days. No wonder they are the top visitors to MPH
i agree...nowadays, its tough cos u get naughty students but u cannot punish them too much...u have to treat them wif love and not all students will buy that kind of guidance...whereas during my time and b4 tat, teachers can simply punish any student when he/she is bad...any type of punishment was allowed other than those that are physically abusive...
hi guys, i found a korea movie which has a "raise hand" punishment..check this http://www.56.com/u23/v_NDE1MjU4MDQ.html out!!!! the time is 05.30, 07.30 and 37.00
had a hard time watching the video clip...anyway, the gals were punished twice by the same teacher...moreover, they cheated on the punishment on both occasions...but i realli wonder why is it always the male teachers meteing out this punishment? wad abt the female Korean teachers???

ic...hey snoopy81, can u ask ur korean online frend on my behalf if the raised hands punishment is usually for the entire lesson? also, ask if the students are expected to keep their hands straight up or are allowed to cheat by bending their elbows?

YES TEACHER SOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO PUNISH STUDENTS FOR THEIR MISBEHAVIOR AND LACK OF OBEYING THE RULES . 2-6 STROKS ON THE PALM OF THE HANDS IT'S NOT GOING TO HURT ,BUT IT WILL LEAVE A GOOD LESSON FOR THE STUDENTS TO LEARN FROM IT.
contradicting...if it wun hurt, how would students learn from it? if it hurt, then would the students suffer physical injuries? caning is not allowed to be used so freely anymore...
how abt a dot instead? then the student cannot stand but have to tip-toe?

Originally posted by despondent:so do u guys tink tat the teacher over-reacted? tat she was unreasonable? i feel the caning was unreasonable…but the slapping…well, maybe its an appropriate punishment though it was harsh…
teachers need to have some form of authority over the students, if not they will take the teacher for granted and walk ontop of the teacher's head. but u can't overdo it, like the eg given on the very first post. after the student was publically caned, the teacher still ask the student to slap himself. the teacher should have stopped abusing her authority, the student has enough damage both physically and psychologically.
installing fear is best only when the student is young, ie pri sch. in sec sch, when the some of the students bcome mature, reasoning and counselling them could be other options to choose.
when i was in sch, i admire teachers who are no push-overs, they are strict when they are suppose to be and yet to show their humorous side when the students behave. students enjoy lessons best in such environment.
forcing the student to slap himself is way too much.... but certain teachers get violent cos they want the students to do well... so really cant blame it on them... but for this case... the teacher overeacted ba... who don scold vulgar when ure in sec sch man...
all of us in class felt that teacher went overboard too...the humiliation she inflicted on my classmate was terrible...yet, we knew that she reacted so strongly cos she allowed her anger to get the better of her...i noe tat my classmate hated her for quite some time after being humiliated by her...one thing was clear though that the teacher wasnt the least apologetic for punishing him in that manner...she acted as if she had punished him appropriately for his actions...

kid is innocent but wat was said is true as he heard it. it's definitely embarassing for the teacher
make fun of teacher so punishment was to laugh for an hr...i was juz tinking...its a pity the teacher wasnt skilled in blocking/unblocking acupoints. i dunno if there is basis for this but i remember watching in chinese martial arts dramas where there was an acupoint that once unblocked would cause the person to laugh and laugh uncontrollably non-stop until its blocked again...if this acupoint thingy is real and the teacher had the skill to unblock acupoints, i can imagine tat student laughing and laughing non-stop for a whole hr until the teacher blocked the acupoint again...
