marseille's striker when they won the CL?Originally posted by Master -_-:LMAOIf u dunno know who Batistuta is, go watch the S League la
Perhaps, u also dunno who Jean Pierre Papin is.. perhaps, alot also dunno![]()
kelong too much...Originally posted by Jader:2 hattricks in 2 world cups does say a lot about Batigol isn't it?
Like all have said, he is definitely a legend, in Argentina NT and Fiorentina.
To be honest, i don't understand why they got relegated in the 92/93 season. They had a great squad. The likes of Batigol, Effenberg and Brian Laudrup surely are capable enough of surviving in Serie A.
not mentioned in the same breadth as pele or maradona does not mean u r not a legend, its juz tat batigol is not as famous as them only.Originally posted by weiqimun:i still maintain tt batigol is not a legend.
he will not be mentioned in the same breadth as pele, maradona, cruyff, backenbeuer or dare i say it, georgie best.
batigol is a very good player, no doubt. he is considered a legend in his birthplace, avellaneda and florence, but he's not in the class of players i mentioned above, and hence not a legend in the real sense.
Well, i guess you may be right if you are comparing to pele, maradona, cruyff or backenbeuer... But he still was a very good player during his time but maybe not as famous as the 4 you mentionedOriginally posted by weiqimun:i still maintain tt batigol is not a legend.

it's what i am implying...the markers for the definition of `legend' is vague once it's taken in a different context; i.e. the club/country he plays, his birthplace, etc.Originally posted by Master -_-:Players like Bobby Charlton, Pele, Eusebio, Gerd Muller and such. They are pioneers.. way different from legends of their own right. They made Soccer their own and became household names. They kinda attained cult status when it comes to soccer.
Legends are known locally. Just like, Fandi Ahmad, QKS, Samad Allapitchay. Legends in singapore because they are known locally and maybe across the borders. But mention them to any english football honcho and they will justat you. Batistuta belong to the Fiorentina rat pack of Edmundo, Batistuta and Manuel Rui Costa. He attained legend status when he decided to help in Florence to get to Serie A and gave a huge sum to save Fiorentina when they were bankrupt. Samer goes to George Weah, Ravanelli, Gianfranco Zola, Cantona, Laudrup Brothers, Enzo Scifo and many more. Legends in their former grounds and countries.

U referring that UCL match where Batistuta powered a shot past that hapless Bosnich's flailing arms?Originally posted by Patrik:That goal for Fiorentina against Manchester United,i wil never forget it.![]()
Of course I'm a nobody. I'm not even in a job where there is a need to get publicity.Originally posted by chrisbenoit:it is implying that you're a nobody.
Well said.Originally posted by zocoss:Well, for me the very fact that we are here still mentioning their names long after they have retired is evidence that they have contributed to football in a big way.
Legends they certainly are but to what degree or heights is another matter of opinion i guess. Jader made a very good point there... The thread starter question is rather vague with the question mark at the end. Batigol is certainly a legend to some and a great player to alot.
People forgets that every year hundreds or maybe thousands of players retire from pro football... and these players will never get a mention from ordinary people like us cos we never knew them. So the fact that we are still talking about a player after he has stop playing shows that he did good enough for us to still remember him.
That in itself, we can consider him as a legend to football as people will still be mentioning his name in years to come.
i think it is a joke, jus becos batigol is mentioned here and now, he's considered a legend. the reason we are talking abt him is becos he's a discussion topic. outside of it, i dun think we spill names like pele out as we do of batigol.Originally posted by Jader:Well said.
lol... now u compare kevin campbell to batigol. yes u rem kevin campbell's name, but can u tell what he had realli done to make u rem his name? i feel u juz pop out with a normal player name juz to justify ur point.Originally posted by weiqimun:i think it is a joke, jus becos batigol is mentioned here and now, he's considered a legend. the reason we are talking abt him is becos he's a discussion topic. outside of it, i dun think we spill names like pele out as we do of batigol.
well, i recall names like kevin campbell, socrates, craig johnston now. r they a legend too?
Like i said, its a matter of opinion... as you can see, many people seems to think he is. But if you are still not happy with it and think just because his name is mentioned makes him a legend,Originally posted by weiqimun:i think it is a joke, jus becos batigol is mentioned here and now, he's considered a legend. the reason we are talking abt him is becos he's a discussion topic. outside of it, i dun think we spill names like pele out as we do of batigol.

duh....i am not comparing them...jus tryin to mk a point.Originally posted by tarcki:lol... now u compare kevin campbell to batigol. yes u rem kevin campbell's name, but can u tell what he had realli done to make u rem his name? i feel u juz pop out with a normal player name juz to justify ur point.
Of course it depends on what kind of topics when discussing such players. And as being discussed earlier, he is a legend for Fiorentina and Argentina. Not the world.Originally posted by weiqimun:i think it is a joke, jus becos batigol is mentioned here and now, he's considered a legend. the reason we are talking abt him is becos he's a discussion topic. outside of it, i dun think we spill names like pele out as we do of batigol.
