[News] Harder to book a cab now

IT IS now harder to get a cab, even if you are willing to phone-book one - thanks to higher demand triggered by the improved economy, higher tourist arrivals and the draw of the two integrated resorts (IRs), industry watchers and commuters say.
But another reason could be a new scheme that allows some cabbies to reject call-bookings at their discretion.

hard to book a cab? this morning 12.05 am ALN got a call at a small hotel in town... reached liao the bell lady ask the group of thai and ang mo paxs to board... but they dilly dally until another bell man hurried them... 5min up, ALN zoom off... waste time hor

Of course people complaint la , $2.50 only .....
Or during prime time $3.50 .
Should be $5 nett ...

Supply & demand theory .....
The four basic laws of supply and demand are :

Poolman, talking about Lakeview, just to check whether is it operational 24 hrs? Reason being I tried calling this morning sometime between 9.50 am - 10 am, but all I heard was "Starhub is unable to get a response from the subscriber's phone".

Today, out off 7 bookings 2 kenna aeroplane
Hard to book a cab??? off course lah....once i kenna aeroplane, i will change the scheme.
Some F#%#ing commuter once booking comfirmed, he/she expect cab appear in-fornt of them.
Reached within 3mins also No-Show. Phui
For those commuter who read this post, don't indicate your pick-up point at "main road" "bus-stop" taxi stand" why? Ask yourself lor..

Now .... i choose 2 set MDT 2 SCHEME B ..... song i take..... mustafa centre ..... hoy, sure reject

i totoally agreeded with poolman.
sg taxi booking is DIRT CHEAP.
and .....TOO EASY FOR CUST 2 cancel a oncall oso ..... hp press 2 3 button = cancel call liaoz.
dat means cust can anihow ABUSE d oncall.
Taxi coy shld make a REBATE if cust cancel a booking, or make it AUTO DEDUCT fm their bank acct once they book a call.

3min reach no show??? U ask sonata83 i one turn reach also got cancel...knn chao ang mo still flag at me...i press busy and zoom off...uncle not yao gui...phui...
Main road = got taxi stop i go, call also don't bother to call up to cancel..
Taxi stand=got taxi come in i go...knn all same kind donno call for what. Only when they are 10 people Q infront of them they lan lan calland wait.

That is why now i encourage you people to go for VIP's jobs ...
Save on levy , and minimum NO SHOW cases , NO SHOW also will pay you booking-fee .
U people must protect your customer base .

Got any locations lao jiao here kenna no show a few times one? Dun think CDG will have a ban list of poor record for customers.

This morning a MD from some aerospace company asked if i can be his permanent contract driver, but he is not constant, only in singapore about 3 month per year, I told him to call taxi, he asked at airport can call taxi or not? I said you can book limo mah if you do not want to join the Q, he also claim that taking a taxi in singapore takes very long, sometime call also dun have, I said you paid more, both 1 hour in advance, sure get one. Then I asked him, how come you MD, you go street and wait for taxi? ask company to rent you a car lah..knn, what MD??

How come so many NO SHOW ?
eg , 3 friends , waiting at One Fullerton .
All needs cabs home . But no taxi on sight .
One stay AMK , one stay Clementi , one stay Woodlands .
One call CDG , one call TransCab , one call Premier .
Which taxi come first , reached first gets the call to 3 locations .
So sometime TransCab NO Show , sometimes CDG , sometime Premier .
Part & Parcel of the job .
If cannot tahan no show , do't take any job , take ready-cooked type at taxi stand .
As i've said , play a smart game .
$2.50 booking or street paxes ? If street has got ready pax , take first ! Let go booking .
Unless street has got so high demand for taxis , and u are so sure won't kena hijack , then take .
If like street so quiet , sekali one call come "main road" , take for what ?

I had analyse those possibilties on why hard to call a cab now ?
Singapore , last few years , 3.5m people . Our taxi fleet only cater for 3.5m people .
Now 5.05m people , almost 30% increase in population , our taxi fleet cannot cope with another the access of 1.55m of population , whom ironically , if just 0.05% of the 1.55m people , take taxi at the same time from 10pm to 11pm , how to cope ?
Providing the original 3.5m dun take any cab at the same time as well .
I also dun think any radio call centre in the world can cope with that .
Any servers can cope with just 50,000 calls in one hour ? 5,000 also got problem .

Cabbies to reject calls base on names destinations and location , is normal .
Back in year 2000 , we can reject and accept bookings base on circumstances , u cannot put a "must" to accept call at all time . And punish drivers for not following instructions .
One way to curb these problems , very effective way , is to raise the current booking rate and flag down again , an inevitable move .
A flag down to $4 , and bookings to nett $4 , might just do the tricks .
The rest of the fare policy remain , and we see how .
